Carol Lawrence began tap dancing class at
six, and was hooked as a dancer ever since. Her first leading role on Broadway
was as the original Maria in West Side Story and other Broadway credits
include Saratoga, Subways are for Sleeping, Nightlife, I
Do, I Do, and Kiss of the Spider Woman. She has sung and danced on
television, in nightclubs, symphony concerts, and on cruise ship lines around
the world. She has done national tours of I Do, I Do, Funny Girl,
Molly Brown, Sweet Charity, and (coming back to her first love of
tapping) replaced Ann Miller in Sugar Babies with Mickey Rooney. In
drama, she debuted on film as Katherine, in A View from the Bridge,
on Play of the Week as Leah, in The Dybbuk, and as the wife in Roshomon,
has guested on many television episodes, was a regular on General
Hospital, and in January 2000, appeared in the LA West Coast Premier of Over
the River and Through the Woods.
