JEAN ISAACS.  In 1969, Jean moved to San Diego and began to develop her own technique, which has nourished countless numbers of California dancers.  As a leading pioneer of modern dance in San Diego, she was instrumental in the formation of the San Diego Area Dance Alliance, of 3’s Company from 1974-1991 and most recently Isaacs/McCaleb & Dancers.  In October 1997 she was appointed Artistic Director of San Diego Dance Theater.  She was the first recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts/Locals Dance Fellowship.  Isaacs also received on of 13 California Arts Council Choreographic Fellowships and the first annual SDADA “Tommy” Award for service to the San Diego dance community.  Isaacs has been instrumental in opening up cross-border opportunities for dancers and choreographers in Latin America and the U.S.  A full-time faculty member in the Department of Theater and Dance at UC San Diego, Isaacs also maintains a rigorous teaching schedule at the Academy of Performing Arts.
