JOHN MALASHOCK founded Malashock Dance in 1988 after a distinguished performing career with Twyla Tharp Dance in New York. With the Tharp company, John was featured in numerous television specials, appeared in the Academy Award winning film, Amedeaus, and performed with Mikhail Baryshnikov and Cynthia Gregory.  John has many collaborative credits including choreography for scenes at The La Jolla Playhouse, The Old Globe Theatre and commissions from the San Diego Symphony and the La Jolla Chamber Music Society. In 1996 the San Diego Opera commissioned his choreography for its production of Aida. In 1993, John received an Emmy for his choreography in a KPBS-TV produced special of his work, Apologies from the Lower Deck. In November 1994, Malashock premiered his first evening length dance/theatre piece, Window Dressers, which was also the subject of a KPBS-TV documentary, Dancers, tracking the work’s process. He has currently established Malashock Dance in residence at San Diego’s highly esteemed Old Globe Theatre.
