WENDELL BEAVERS began dancing in 1976 in New York with Mary Overlie after a checkered career as athlete (football, basketball, baseball) and scholar (economics, intellectual history.) He studied every known modern technique, ballet with Jean Hamilton, and improvisation/performance with The Judsons: Steve Paxton, Robert Ellis Dunn, Barbara Dilley. He began performing and creating his own work in 1986 while studying developmental movement and experiential anatomy with Bonnie Cohen. He has created solos and group works heavily influenced by this work for the past ten years. he was a founding member and early director of Movement Research. He is the Associate Director of NYU's Experimental Theater Wing (ETW) where he has been on the faculty since 1979.
