SARA RUDNER, a graduate of Barnard College, was born and raised
in Brooklyn, N.Y. She participated in
the development and performance of Twyla Tharp’s modern dance repertory from
1965-1985. During this time she began
to choreograph for a small group of dancers known as the Sara Rudner
Performance Ensemble, as well as conceiving and directing a series of dances
intended to break with conventional time frames, spaces and occasions. Sara continues to pursue her interest in
choreography and dancing collaborating with like minded colleagues including
Dana Reitz, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Christopher Janney, Russel Dumas, Rona
Pondick, Robert Feintuch, Erin Cornell, Jodi Melnick, and Jennifer Tipton,
among others. She received a Bessie in
1984 and has been awarded grants from the NEA, the John Simon Guggenheim
Memorial Foundation and NYSCA. She is
adjunct faculty at NYU and is currently a teaching fellow at Bennington
College.
